Matt Long and GazZu Racing Readies for $250,000 Fastrak Grand Nationals
Concord, NC – Matt Long and his GazZu Energy Drink Race Team have been spending the last few days preparing for their run at the $50,000 to win Fastrak Grand Nationals coming up over the next few weeks. The Fastrak Nationals will kick off this coming weekend, October 3rd and 4th at the Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, Georgia. The three event Grand Nationals then move to Friendship Speedway in Elkin, North Carolina on October 15th and 16th and finally culminate with the finale' at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia on October 17th and 18th.
Long and his team have suffered through much strife and bad luck over the last month and a half. Long's car was severely damaged while battling for the lead at Eldora Speedway in early August. After repairing all the damage incurred at Eldora, Long and his team met with bad luck at Wythe Raceway later in the month. During hot laps Long broke an a-frame sending him hard into the wall. The team thrashed on the car and was able to qualify but the car was still not up to par. The team later discovered the rear end was bent in their Rocket Chassis.
The GazZu Team regrouped and made repairs to the car the next week. Long and team traveled the short distance over to the Friendship Speedway in Elkin, NC for a Fastrak Weekly Racing Series event. Basically using the event as a paid test session, Long was able to qualify fourth and finish in the fifth position. The team also made the return trip for an open practice session at Friendship this past weekend and was able to make some good notes for the Fastrak Grand Nationals event scheduled there.
Long reflected on the last few weeks "I know that we would have won Eldora. Our car was just so good there. And we just plain got wrecked. It has been a tough few weeks for us. We had to clip car after Eldora and then had to do it all over again after the deal at Wythe. But we are looking forward to the Fastrak Grand Nationals. We have got our car back up to where we were before all the trouble that we have had. So we really expect to be right there in contention for that $50,000 Championship."
